first road test

so far so good. using Busterpup 8.0 and had no sound or wireless issues.
youtube did not choke, and video file playback is fine with gnome player.

looking for the next option up fron tahr64-605. this seems promising.
running from a usb. just copied the iso contents and ran g4d to make work ...

mainline pups

what i can say from using puppy since 2008 is the 3 series to the 4 then to 5 was basicly the same. barry built it then variations would come out. he changed part of the build and filesystem with 431. thet 5 series was when woof became the framework to build puppy with. it was to use other distro ...

great to see people are using kdpup

if you are updating deps from squeeze you may run into conflicts. the big difference will likely be that the kde deps from squeeze will be for kde4 vs 3.5
unless kde is your highest priority, i might suggest using dejan's dpup 485. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=67662

re spup 100

dark city, barry made spup 100/200/400 due to questions about why the other pup5 branches had been ignored
.
haven't tried 100 or 200 but used spup 400 for a while.
it was nearly as good as gospil's dpup 484. and i did get files from slacware repos out of it cleanly
it did most of what was hanging ...

not really

from the age range of the poll what i see are folks that wanted to try something different.

most have been around windows for many years and some of the pre-windows computing.

so they weren't necc worried about having to get their hands dirty.

i'm 46. one of the reasons i came to puppy was the xp ...

superseded?

as to whether 511 is superceded by 520/525 my guideline is whether or not a cd update between versions break things.

this is the main thing to avoid between version numbers
even bugfix releases can behave badly

savefile filling

here's another method you might try out.

make your savefile approximately 1g if space is there.

save all data-pics,docs, etc on the hd outside of the savefile.

this keeps the savefile for settings and book marks and installed software. the reason for 1g is that will be the amount of live ram when ...

thx dejan

tried 485 and it is very nice :D

i like the updated pupspace marker and auto network setup.

things that i had to do were:
1. added new links in the openwith menu for seamonkey and firefox.
did this so i could open and play saved .swf files/games

2. what changed between 484 and 485 in the way ...

i have used many of the various older and newer pups.

i am glad to see that some of the early issues with lupu are being fixed.

that said i have been using gospils dpup since oct 2009 with no issues and 484 since jan 2010.

it has been my fallback/main pup since then.

like with all things puppy ...

why dpup?

let me say that i have been using puppy since 215ce.
so i have gone through the various trails and issues of usability with puppy.

the 3 series was what i used for 2 years.
the 4 series up to 421 had some issues due to the learning curve of switching to gtk2
when i got 421 i liked it. solved most ...

also what you are seeing at startup is the bootsplash

you can change that.

not sure where it is located but that is a png that is made for every release. so you would just have to find it and make a changed one for yourself

was this a remaster?

reread and you said you edited the .sfs

you haven't actually changed the .sfs other than by content
which is why it still is called lupu.sfs
you would need to rename it. but not sure if it will work correctly afterward since it isn't a remaster. using the remaster scripts will let you rename the ...

it's very good for a file host. you have a good selection of pets.
saving wolf's stuff is very helpful .
and big mikes repo is keeping up to date.

but if it's allowed you might get some topic related banners. that would give a chance for some revenue. but not interfre with the files

regarding modems

some versions of puppy don't have a full selection of drivers for dailup . I don't have puppy5 to see what's up there but for 431 at ibiblio.org there is a special puppies 431 folder. in there is a 431 intel-scsi.iso

that one has all the dailup drivers
some of the newer release have had a few or ...
