I run my Windoze server as administrator. It's risky, yes, but if you set it up correctly, it won't matter much.

Absolutely. I really have missed eing a part of development. I'm thinking of taking one of the *buntu compatible pups and stripping it down to the bare bones and then packaging it with all the web server bells and whistles. PHP, Apache, MySQL maybe some other stuff to go with it, too. Not sure what ...

It's me again Margret.

Well, I've been out of the loop since helping with the initial version of PSIP back with Puppy 4.2, but I think it's high time I get back with it and see what I can do to further the Puppy community. I come to the table with a small offering to the community, which I hope to turn into more. I curren...

Here's what the settings for the HDD look like, along with Slacko 5.4 -NOT- seeing the HDD at all in PMount.

Already did that. I have it set up as IDE from the setup because SCSI drives usually have issues in virtualization anyway... I'll try to redo the VM from scratch and see what happens...

VMWare

I'm trying to get Slacko 5.4 working in VMWare 9, but it's not reading the virtual drive that is associated with it's VM... Any ideas/suggestions?

Which is the best Pup to use for a Server?

I've got a friend interested in using Puppy as a server, but I'm not sure which puppy to tell him to use. I seem to remember there being a puppy server version at one point that someone was working on, but I can't seem to find the thread for it anymore. Any suggestions?

You're looking for shutdown.rc and all you have to add is unmount /dev/sda1 if memory serves. Add it at the beginning.

Laptops and Puppy

I've noticed that my puppy really doesn't like waking up from naps. Any time I close the lid on my laptop, my pup will sleep. When I open the lid, it'll blink at me, and go right back to sleep. I have to press the power button several times (more the longer it's been asleep) in order to get it to wa...

You should be able to create a shutdown script that is executed that will unmount your filesystem. Use the CLI commands for mounting and unmounting your drive and you should be able to insert that into the shutdown script. I'm not exactly sure where the actual script is off the top of my head, but i...

Also, you can get the devx sfs file for your breed and if you can't find the programs you want, it should be totally possible to build them yourself. :) Also, we do have WINE available, and it runs quite nicely for me in Slacko 5.3.3. There are also packages available for GIMP, Firefox and Skype. I ...

Wait before you reformat. I'm going to bed for now, (it's midnight, basically) but there is a way for a full install. I'll post back tomorrow.

look in /mnt/home/

You should see a file that says something like wary_puppy_#.#.#.sfs with the puppy version number where the ### is in that. That's your puppy version number.

Also, when you installed Puppy, did you choose Full or Frugal as the install method. That -does- change things.

Actually, I received the computer as Windows had crashed and the person who had it had gotten it from work as a freebie so they were willing to part with it in exchange for me updating another computer from Vista to 7. Took no time to get the thing running puppy. I agree with your assumption on the ...
