Anyone? I also have this problem in 5.29.5 -- I installed Truecrypt, and it shows up on the Utility menu, but has no icon. I know I need to tweak some icewm file somewhere, but just can't figure it out...

Have a look for the truecrypt.desktop file in the directory /usr/share/applications

I was using AVlinux but have gradually come round to preferring Puppy. It is more easy to customise and you can configure it to have just what you want.

AVlinux is debian based, which is not as off topic on a puppy forum as might seem. You could try and use their debian packages with Lucid Puppy as Lucid is debian based

Certainly in AVlinux 4.2 the kernel was high performance (Liquorix) rather than rt, I am not ...

Suppose I want to use the standard Lupu 5.2.5 how do I get real time kernel going so I get the same capability that Puppy Studio have?

I did put this earlier in the thread but I do not know how to link to it, so sorry for repeating:

apparently a lot of rt scheduling stuff is in the mainline ...

I like AVLinux, but if you want that puppy lightness, just install the audio apps you need on a stock puppy & make a save file or (as I prefer) remaster. You can get rt on a stock kernel now - certainly enough for what I need.

Usually the Tor browser bundle 'just works' on puppy. Just download the Linux version unpack it & run the 'start-tor-browser file'. It is fussy about the system clock being correct & who has ownership of the files.

I am very interested in compiling for puppy but the package format seems to be a moving target all the time .

Lucid puppy uses deb but the next puppy is likely to use slackware packages. There is also pet, but I know that currently Barry K has been looking at rpms & just added rpm support (if I ...

Python has many extras & bolt ons that may not be in the sfs. Try starting your program from a terminal & see if there are any error messages. If it complains something is missing try googling to find what you need.

Sorry i do not know multisystem. By the time puppy is booting it is too late to enter the code. Have a look at the configuration files for Multisystem & see if you can hack the puppy entry (always back up any file before altering it!).

Perhaps you have an old pendrive you can put puppy on. It is ...

use pfix=ram at boot

Puppy can do this. When you get to the boot prompt just add pfix=ram to the boot arguments.

The beauty of using a keypen is that you can create a permanent menu item for this. On my keypen created with unetbootin I added this to the end of syslinux.cfg:

label ubnentry1
menu label puppy RAM
kernel ...

RT access normal kernel

If you run jack or qjackctl on a stock kernel make sure to enable the realtime option. I found myself (to my surprise) getting better results with this option in stock puppy even though the kernel is not an rt one & then found this at the jack website:

sorry post not working

I saw your post & thought of this:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq#What is swappiness and how do I change it?

this should deter the kernel from using swap when you still have RAM

Hope this helps

Hi

You can't just install source files. They are program in its original programming language (C, C++ etc) & need to be compiled to make the binary that your system can run. This is possible but a bit involved for a newbie.

The packages you can use depends on the version of Puppy you are on. The ...
