Hi vtpup.

Please accept my apologies for the delayed response.

Thank you for the explanation regarding the attempted Grub4Dos installation. I would imagine that that could very well explain things.

Good that things are set up as you wanted. And yeah, what works is good :) . Thanks.

Hi Colonel Panic.

I must confess my edit in the reply to vtpup was intended as a warning about something I had come across (but my wording was confusing).

Thanks for the info. There is some interesting reading that does clarify things a bit. Although I have to admit that I have been lazy, and not ...

Hi Colonel Panic,

I don't know that your issue with Softmaker Office would directly relate to the su one (but maybe it could indirectly). The su thing related to running commands as root, setting the correct path etc. so that the commands are found. Theoretically at least, I wouldn't expect that to ...

Hi vtpup.

Cool. It's good that you have it working, and good that you had the backups.

I hadn't mentioned the following before as you hadn't wanted to install Grub2 to the MBR, and I have only recently started trying it (but it is very nice). Then I got to thinking (always dangerous), and was ...

Hi Nitehawk.

I guess whilst I am running amok, I might as well mention that an install of Debian 10.3 to a HP DC5750 SFF appears to have been successful (well, it comes with the ACPI error advice notifications during boot of course, but it seems to work). It has an AMD processor (the end 50 in the ...

Hi vtpup. I think you have a good point re co-opting the thread, and I apologise for keeping on. Ras has a good point regarding assistance too. Should you decide to open a thread elsewhere would a link in each one, pointing to the other, provide a path for those who might be interested?
I'll try to ...

Hi vtpup.

First off, please accept my apologies for any mistakes that might arise in the following. I am usually running on autopilot with a toppled gyro, but I seem to be even worse at the moment.

I realise that you have "given up" on the Linux Mint install, but there are some things that I seem ...

Thankyou for How to add Puppy/Dog installs to a bigboy Linux

Thank you rcrsn51 for the procedure to add Puppy/Dog installs to a big boy Linux setup, as given on Page 24 in "The Debian-Stretch-Live Starter Kit thread. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=112784&start=345 .

It is very nice, no need to chainload.

I tried it with Grub4Dos generated ...

Hi Nitehawk,

Please accept my apologies for both delaying this reply, and for leading you to have to flip your computer (I suspect that you would have thought of it too, but about half an hour after first reading your post, I realised that Pup-SysInfo might have identified it). Part of the reason ...

Hi Nitehawk and all,

Please accept my apologies if I am butting in where I shouldn't.
I was wondering about your old HP Compaq desktop. Would it be an earlier Core2Duo? I am not trying to pry. It is just that I seem to recall that Intel were only going so far back with updating firmware (?) support ...

Hi again,

Using the "nomodeset" parameter appears to have solved the problems noted above.

The laptop shuts down correctly, Pipe Panic and Gucview (hopefully I got it right this time) open properly.

I haven't tried leaving the machine idle, but I have a strong suspicion from the above that it ...

@ Acodin

Hi Acodin,

I am butting in, with little knowledge, so this probably won't help.

Nevertheless, are all the RAM modules (including the 2G one that works) actually specificied as DDR2-667 ones?

The reason I ask is that I think DDR2-667 might be a bit harder to get here, as (if my ...

Hi,

Thank you for making Fatdog64 available.

The above laptop has a few "complications" as it also has a separate graphics card in addition to the APU, and it has one of those newer Elan "Precision" touchpads.

I have only been using Fatdog64-800a in live mode with no savefile. At present the hard ...

Slacko-6.9.9.9-32bit-E160E 3G modem connection problem

Hi,

Thank you to 01Micko and all involved in making Slacko and all other puppies available.

I thought I should mention that I seem to be encountering trouble connecting to the internet when using a Huawei E160E 3G modem (it is one of the ones that seem to be in dual mode all of the time- putting a ...

Hi nubc.

Please accept my apologies in advance should I be wasting your time- I am very much out of my depth.
I have only tried checking the new Firefox offline as I am not using Slacko 6.3.0 on the net as yet (as usual, I am slow).

Use of the plus sign symbol seems to open a "New Tab" tab or page ...

Update re filesystem identification problem

Hi again.

Have made a quick check with Slacko32-6.3.0 and the problem appears to be the same as per Slacko64- not themes, but a matter of the filesystem of the first USB key inserted after startup. Haven't tried restarting X, or anything.

Come to think of it, I also don't know why the Fat16 ...

Update re filesystem identification problem

Hi again 01Micko,

As usual, never rely on The Baldric!

I thought I should have another look. I have only checked with Slacko64 at this stage.

It now appears that the problem might relate to the order in which the respective USB sticks are used, rather than the theme (even one as unknowledgable ...

Hi 01Micko,

Thanks for looking into it.

Yes, you can tell I don't post much, eh? I sometimes visit "on the quiet".

Thanks again.
