Not seeing an answer to my how-to question, so for now I'll assume it can't be done. Thanks to everyone who joined in, especially Flash for his explanation of how to upgrade. (That's another thing I had been wrestling with.) I haven't tried it yet, but I assume it will work with a CD......Later.

At the risk of revealing my ignorance, let me say for example that if I want to upgrade to 2.12 from 2.11, it seems the only way I can do it is to wait until the CD fills up, and then migrate. Upgrading seems much easier if I have a pupsave file on the HD. Also, if I use Puppy on a PC with no burner...

Tried these boot parameters, but the Pup just goes merrily on, loading all the multisession folders. Good shot, though.

How change from multisession saving to saving on HD?

Running 2.11. Till now I've been saving each session to the CD. But I've come to believe that saving to the HD would be better for me. So, how do I save my next session to the HD? I've tried putting a pup_save.3fs file on HDA1, but when Pup boots up it doesn't pay any attention to the pup_save.3fs f...

Tried it but still got a segfault, and, as an extra bonus, it hosed my jwm menu. Had to blacklist a couple of sessions to recover.
BTW, made a mistake in my initial post--I should have said that I DL'd ver 9.02, not 2.02. Sorry.

Seg Fault with Opera in 2.11

Running 2.11. DL'd Opera 2.02 (static version) via pupget. Apparently installed okay, menu item was added to JWM. But....I get a segmentation fault in a console when I try to bring it up, even after rebooting. In the GUI I get nothing when I call it up from the JWM menu. What does anyone think might...

Abiword Loses Characters When I Tab

Weird. When I type a word or sentence in Abiword and then hit Tab, the first letter of the word or sentence is deleted. Hit Tab again and the next letter goes south, and so on. I had the problem in 2.01, 2.10 and now I have it in 2.11. Weird. :?:

Fixed it.

Fixed it just this morning. What had happened was that when I tried to migrate to 2.10, some unreadable, session folders were put onto the 2.01 CD. It would still boot, but there were all kinds of complaints, such as input-output errors, and "trying to access beyond the device,' etc. I was able...

Messed up my 2.01, can't make a bootable restore

I've messedd up my 2.01 puppy, which contains gimp, cups, and a lot of other additions. Trying to restore it, I've made a directory on my hd, and named it puppyrescue201. Inside that directory I've copied the following from the messed-up 2.01 puppy CD: boot.cat boot.msg initrd.gz isolinux.bin isolin...

This seems to be a source file. If I upgrade to Puppy 2.10 and also get devfs, will I be able to compile this? Will I have to hunt up missing libraries? I installed an earlier version of Gimp-Print, but I wasn't able to print out of the Gimp dotpup, so I'm still trying to get printing capability out...

Same problem here, with a Kensington trackball. By going into Xorgsetup and changing the "auto" line to "ThinkingMouse" I can get the Kensington to work fine in the current session. But the change won't save. When I come back into Puppy (after saving to the CD), Xorgconf is back ...

Yes, I'm sure now. I need to do "cupsd" in a terminal in order to be able to print. Excuse my ignorance, but how do I include cupsd in the rc.local script? Do I just type in cupsd at the end, or do I enter something like "exec cupsd?" Again, I gotta say it's great to be able to p...

When I fired up this morning, I couldn't print until I did "cupsd" in a terminal. Perhaps this has something to do with saving the content of sessions--dunno. I'm very happy to have CUPS printing, so entering cupsd when I fire up is no problem at all. (Probably could stick it somewhere in ...

Beautiful job! My HP LaserJet4 worked great after I ran the cups and perl add-on scripts. (I thought it best to run the perl-addon first.) Had some trouble getting on to localhost:631, and I see that lots of other people are having problems getting to that site. Anyway, it's great. I have a few litt...

Re the Smartlink Modem Problem

Been wrestling with trying to get a Smartlink modem working on Puppy. (I finally got the Smartlink modem I have on another box to work with "standard" hard-drive linux. Re Puppy, I have noticed one thing which seems important. After downloading the right slmodem package, doing the modem wi...

SmartLink Modem Driver is a Source Package?

Tried (with no success) for quite a while to get a Smartlink modem working. Using another box, I downloaded and re-downloaded the correct slmodem driver from ibiblio. When I put it on a floppy and walked it over to the other machine and tried pupget to install it, total failure. Pupget complained th...
